Testing Grounds is an amazing art space right next to the University of Melbourne, and a perfect spot for doing an outdoor ‘City Jam’!
For this telematic audio-visual performance, Donna Hewit (streaming voice and live-electronics from Sydney) and Maria Mannone (streaming piano from Palermo) remotely connected with Nela and Sonia who were at Testing Grounds doing live electronics together with a guest artist Susannah Langley doing live digital drawing on top of the projection of dance art video ‘In the Woods’, which was made specially for this performance by our colleagues Fumi Tomioka and Aki Kawashita in the woods of Tokyo, Japan.

This performance was riddled with sooo many technical challenges, but was also soooo much fun to do! Hopefully one day we will be back!!!
You can check an excerpt from the performance on the FLO YouTube channel.
A BIG THANK you to the following peeps and organisations who supported FLO performance of FLO + FRIENDS: City Jam Melbourne in various ways:
- Lovely Testing Grounds peeps Arie (Program Director/ Curator) and Molly (Program Producer), who invited us to do the performance
- Warren Armstrong (a new media artist who makes amazing VR work in collaboration with Susannah), who was amazing in helping us with the whole ‘bump-in’ and ‘bump-out’ and got us all up and running in no time!
- University of Melbourne Macgeorge Fellowship 2019
- Bitwig Studio, Audio-Technica and RØDE Microphones for supplying FLO with software and hardware!

A BIG THANKS to EVERYONE from Testing Grounds who stopped by to hear us play and ask us questions about what was going on (and why there are some people on the screen waving to us all! It is unusual to have this kind of ‘telematic goodbye’ after the performance but also soooo much fun!!!)
